Successful, high quality and useful research requires the involvement of a co-ordinated team and the generous participation of members of the community. On this page we will feature calls from researchers who are looking for

  • advisors or steering group members to oversee new projects
  • academic collaborators
  • collaborators in clinical, educational or community practice
  • participants

If you would like to see your work featured on this page please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page.  Inclusion here does not imply endorsement, and projects looking to recruit participants will need to demonstrate that an external ethical review has been undertaken and approval given. You will also be required to send a summary of research findings after your project is complete, to be included on the website.

Research Studies Now Seeking Participants:

(1) Experiences of Music Tuition by Young People with Autism and their Families

I am conducting a study exploring the views of individuals with autism, their parents/carers and music teachers on the effect of music tuition on the emotions and behaviour of the young person with autism. Should you be interested please contact me.

The researcher(s) are looking for: Young people (11 – 17 years) with autism who are in mainstream school and who are also receiving music lessons teaching them how to play an instrument, along with their parents and music teachers.

Participation involves: Ideally I would like to interview the young person, their parent/carer and their music teacher. If possible I would also like to observe one music lesson. Interviews can take place in the location of your choice.

(2) Educators’ Perceptions of Experiences of Young People in Mainstream Secondary

We are carrying out survey on educators’ perceptions of the difficulties that young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience in mainstream secondary school. The school environment is often a challenging one for young people with ASD and those looking after them. The study is focused on gathering your views as an educator who has worked with a young person with ASD and your responses will be invaluable in helping us find out more about those challenges.

The researcher(s) are looking for:  any member of staff (qualified teacher or support staff) who has/ had contact with at least one young person (aged 11-18)  with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a mainstream secondary school setting, either currently or within the past 2 years

Participation involves: completing an online survey taking approximately 15 minutes
